The Best Moment of My Life
The best moment of my life

It’s the best moment of my life when I won the first prize in the National English Competition for College Students. People define the best moment of their life in different ways. For instance, my friends thought that the best moment was to watch the football match of Barcelona in the Nou Camp Stadium or say love to a girl in the university. However, mine is different. It happened in 2009 when I was a college student. As you know, there were varieties of competitions in the college such as mathematical model, academic debate, instrumental music, etc. I often joined them, but I failed until I won the prize in the National English Competition for College Students, which was the best moment in my life. The reason that I consider winning the prize to be the best moment is because I have learnt a lot during the process. Before I took part in the National English Competition, I joined the school competitions of academic debate and singing. Though I was well prepared for them, I still failed in the end. I felt disappointed and frustrated. As a result, I decided to quit participating in the English Competition. My teacher Mr. Lu found my unhappiness and came to comfort me. He told me that everyone wants to be the first in a competition, but only a few can be successful, most of us are failures. Don’t mind it , even if you fail. Just believe that you have made all your efforts and must learn something. These words inspired me a lot, so I kept joining the competition and I don’t mind whether I would be the winner or loser. In my last year of college, I took part in the National English Competition for College Students which was held by the National Education Examinations Authority. The contents of competition included written examination and oral interviews. That is to say, you need perform well in both the items and then you could win the prize. In order to prepare for the competition, I insisted on getting up at 6:00 to

When I was in seventh grade, my middle school participated in a very well-known science fair competition in Los Angeles County. The fair showcased projects done by students all over the county, and only a few of the best students were chosen as winners. The winners, depending on the grade level, won cash prizes, medals, and even scholarship offers. As most people would be, I was really enthusiastic that I got an opportunity to participate in such a rigorous event.…

I never imagine that I will take any academic award in high school or any time for all that matter. When I stepped excitedly and nervously into the stage to get my third academic letter award in high school, it was the most amazing moments in my life; and without a doubt, it was a fantastic fantasy in between my hands. Arriving at my new school excitingly, Marshall High School, I met my new counselor, who was the first person I met in school. She told me about the school system, the teachers, clubs/organization and my own classes; all that was eagerness and thrilling. We walked around the school; I started imagine who I will be and who I will be friends: one of the popular students, the normal students, or the losers.…

The proudest moment in my high school career is when I signed myself to take my first AP class. I was really nervous about going to the meeting to sign myself up to get the summer assignment because I felt that I was not ready for the work load, and I would not be able to pass the class. My excuse for not going to the meeting was that I was helping in the cafeteria and I was going to be really late, but when I told my two best friends Jenny and Virginia that I wasn't going to take it anymore. They got so frustrated and annoyed with me because they said I was stupid if I didn’t take AP calculus because that was my favorite subject and I needed a challenge in that class. They also made me remember when I would tell them that Math Analysis was…

The final person turned in their scorecard and saw that I won 1st in every category. I defined drive, chip and putt by being the best at all of those in my category. I was so, so, so happy, they said Santiago Arredondo and that was probably my favorite time someone said my name. I was going through all the things I just did and how crazy that was that on my very first drive, chip and putt that I just flawlessly won. At that moment I felt that my endeavors during school paid off, because this preparation helped me pass the TOEFL and SAT exams with high scores rather effortlessly, and I was elated when I discovered my scores were above average. In order to pass these exams, I had to be literate in English because I had to write essays, fix some sentences with grammatical issues and comprehend articles in English. The tough work of taking English classes simultaneously with Spanish and chess classes helped me prepare for these critical moments that decided where I would spend my future. These exams helped me obtain half a scholarship with the chess program. Furthermore, being good with computers, especially in computer programming, gave me an opportunity to receive the other half a scholarship to obtain a full scholarship to stay here in the United States and attend…

In the morning the whole convention went into one of the auditoriums to hear the awards being called out. I didn’t win anything for poetry, but my group won first place in book battle. As I went onto the stage I couldn’t stop smiling. Our school got first place in two other events. That meant that the people events that placed qualified to go to nationals in Disney World. For the rest of the day my friends and I kept saying “We’re going to Disney!” because we couldn’t believe what had happened. And all the way home we held our first place…

My Most pivotal moment in my life was when I almost got shot. I know you’re probably thinking I’m crazy because how can almost getting shot be a good thing? Well I’m going to tell you why. It all started on July 31, 2015 me and all my cousins were sitting in the house, and they decided that we should go out. I honestly didn’t want to go but they forced me. That night we went to a club, had fun until the night was over. We started leaving the club and as we were walking toward the parking lot a group of guys just started fighting out of the where. It got crazy and chaotic quick. The security from the club came running outside trying to break up the fight; eventually they did. At Old Scona Academic high school, I was an avid public speaker and debater and was heavily involved in competitions and conferences. My favorite competition was the annual Churchill Speech and Debate Competitions, which were comprised of both speech and debate competition components where students tackle a current topic and build their case while drawing strong support from research. As a competitor, I approached the President of the Rt. Hon. Sir Winston Churchill Society with an interest to get involved. Upon entering university, the then Director of Competitions asked me if I was interested in succeeding in her position, to which I accepted with great enthusiasm. As the Director of Competitions, my work pertains to planning logistics, managing relations with students and coaches, and working with the University of Alberta Debate Society to ensure a well-run event. Each year, the competitions grow in the number of participants. Last year, we had over 100 high school competitors within the Edmonton region. Now, I am honored to say that I have been involved with the competitions for six years and have organized them for the past…
