On one hand, supporters of later start times believe that kids’ brains aren’t fully awake for an 8 am class. On the other hand, however, opponents argue schools start time should stay the same. The parents of teen or even younger kids is also a good audience because they get to see the health benefits that could happen if schools started later. Purpose ~ The purpose of this article is to inform people of the benefits that a later school start time can have on kids. As well as the health benefits of sleep especially on teenagers in high school. Speaker ~ I hope to be viewed as someone of knowledge on the topic I am speaking about. As a High school and even middle school student, I had always found that having classes as early as 7:30a.m. really affected my mood, and levels of sleepiness, and work ethic. In the late 50′s and all throughout the 60′s, it was common for most schools to start between 8:30-9:00, and even then, students had trouble staying awake. By 2000, many high schools were starting at 7:30 or earlier, hindering the academic abilities of many students because of the extremely early start times. Some school districts have taken action by having schools start later, however traditions; even those that are bad, are difficult to change, leading to many other school districts refusing to have high schools start later in the morning and end later in the afternoon.…
